Grammy's Fudgy Brownies

Updated: Sep 14, 2024

Growing up, I hated chocolate. Yeah, I know, weirdo, right? But it's true, and much to my distain, my mom would make brownies quite often, which, for me, would mean an orange or banana for dessert instead. That's right, while everyone was enjoying delicious, fudgy, warm chocolate brownies, I could be seen eating a grapefruit...

Fast forward to my mid-20's, and suddenly chocolate was my best friend while I watched a movie, drove in the car, wrote a new song, after a run...you get it. I became kind of normal. At least, I discovered how yum chocolate actually is, and eventually, in my 30's, started liking brownies too. Now this recipe, the same one my mom has made my entire life, is the one I turn to most often when my family craves a week-day sweet-treat. To be honest, I truly don't make dessert that often, maybe once a month (all other "desserts" usually consist of fruit and yogurt, or somthing equally as healthy). But when I do, it's this or apple crumble.

This simple recipe comes together in about 10 minutes, and is a very sweet part of my childhood. I hope you love it as much as my kiddos do!

Grammy's Fudgy Brownies

Ingredients:

  • 1 stick butter, melted

  • 1 cup organic white sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/2 cup organic, all purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup organic cocoa powder

  • 2 tsp vanilla

  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

  • 1/3 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Preheat oven to 350f.

Beat sugar and melted butter together until creamy. Beat in eggs until completely combined. Whisk in flour, cocoa powder, vanilla and sea salt. Mix thoroughly. Fold in chocolate chips if using and sprinkle a few on top because it looks pretty :)

Pour batter into 8x8 brownie pan. Bake for 22-24 minutes until just baked, and still a little gooey. Serve with ice cream if you're feeling extra. Enjoy!
